Student life
Although the coursework at ID can be intense and demanding, students somehow find the time to pursue a wealth of extracurricular and paracurricular activities. (Sleep is not often among them.)
The ID Student Activities Board is an umbrella organization, created by the student body, for a wealth of programs and activities. It's divided into several sub-groups, described below, and overseen by a "couch" (as opposed to a single chair-person) of four students.
If you're thinking of applying or about to enroll, the New Student Guide (below) will give you a good idea of what it's like, and what it's not like, to be an ID student.
ID Student Activities Board
engageID
Fosters student involvement and voice in matters relating to the school, the ID community, and the design industry and develops simple and effective means to communicate this to the student body. Publishes the biweekly student newsletter, the New Idiom, and organizes the annual Design Research Conference.
insideID
Acts to improve ID's physical and emotional spaces by providing resources to diminish the stresses that work and class expectations create, including brown-bag lecturettes, facilities improvements, and the ever-popular snackID.
recruitID
Connects students with the design and business communities at large. The group runs two recruiting events, one in the spring and one in fall, which allow potential employers to learn about ID and interview students. The events are professional grade and require significant student input and funding.
socialID
Fosters rich student relationships within the ID community through a variety of social events open to all students throughout the year, from the popular International Dinner, to Secret Santa services, to the much-beloved pubID.
welcomeID
Provides a supportive environment for new students arriving in the fall and spring, hosting welcome events and connecting new students with current student mentors.
New Student Guide
by students, for students
Includes day-in-the-life stories, notes on extracurriculars, reading suggestions, where to buy supplies, where to eat and drink, and probably most importantly, where to live.
