Graduate Intro to Comm Design 2

Description

Instructor

Megan Fath

Robert Zolna

This course builds on the previous exploration of basic concepts of visual communication design. A further investigation of graphic elements, grid structures, and information structuring and hierarchies will be conducted in the context of branded visual identity systems. This course focuses on a holistic approach mindful of brand attributes such as message, meaning, audience/user, personality, tone, context of use and application. This process is a typical approach to branding in the professional design industry. Together we will examine the rules and decisions that need to be applied to create visual consistency across multiple communication touchpoints.

Format & Grading

The morning session will typically consist of a lecture and discussion, while afternoons will focus on reviews, critiques, and in-class work sessions.

A constant stream of your effort throughout the semester in the form of assignments and class participation will be the basis of your grade. Assignments include single week exercises, multi-week investigations and the cumulative semester deliverable. Each week you will be required to do something new to demonstrate cumulative knowledge throughout the semester. Timeliness is critical; due to the iterative nature of the class late assignments will not be accepted.
