Life Cycle and Sustainable Design

This course explores the design paradigm and the need to incorporate systems thinking with a focus on issues of sustainability, that include both ecological concerns and social concernes in expanding the definition of “good” product and product system design.

Methods

This short course will review the current and emerging methods/tools such as Design for the Environment (DfE)and Life Cycle Systems Design (LCA).

Format & Grading

Short individual and team exercises are used to demonstrate the complexity of this comprehensive approach to product development.
