Graduate Intro to Design 1
Description
This Introduction to Design class will have three parts:
1. An introduction to design and the process of design – This part of the class will introduce design vocabulary and definitions as well as different models in the field that describe the process of design, from creation to completion.
2. An introduction to the history of design – This part of the class will be a brief primer into the history of design. We will introduce important designers, periods and objects of design through the 20th century.
3. An introduction to design planning – This part of the class will introduce the concept of design planning as a cross between design and business practices, where we will begin to apply design methods to business problems.
Format & Grading
The class format will vary depending the content of each class but will follow this general outline:
- Discussion of assigned readings
- Lecture and discussion about one of the three themes for the class
- Student presentations about topic assigned
Attendance and active participation during class are critical to learning, having a good time and your grade. Other criteria for individual grades will include timely completion of all assignments, quality of assignments and quality of in-class comments.
There will be weekly assignment for you to complete as well as reading that will be a part of the discussion of the class (you will be expect to be conversant in the reading material).
