Systems Workshop
Description
Introduces the application of Structured Planning methods to complex design problems at the system level. Team techniques are emphasized, and formatted information handling and computer-supported structuring processes are used at appropriate stages of project definition, information development, structuring, concept development and communication. Theoretical aspects of Structured Planning are taught as part of the course.
Format & Grading
Teams will undertake single, semester-long projects (not necessarily on the same topic). Classes will normally be conducted in a project-oriented format, the class meeting as a whole at the beginning of each session and progressing to team activities as the schedule dictates. Team leadership will rotate, with team members evaluating the performance of the leader and themselves at each transition.
Project: 2/3
Team Evaluations: 1/3
Each team will prepare and submit an illustrated project report in printed form along with a visual presentation and supplementary visual materials on seeID and discs. In cases where the project is also a competition entry, team members will be responsible for the competition's entry requirements.
