Design Planning
Description
Most people consider innovation planning an oxymoron. At ID we’re dedicated to having innovation give up its secrets. This foundation course takes us on a brisk journey to connect ideas ranging from the business planning fundamentals, to modern frontiers of design and innovation planning. Required for all ID graduate students, those who attend should find this short course intense but helpful in understanding the basic ideas, frameworks, and capabilities that planning demands.
Format & Grading
Classes are conducted in a presentation/discussion format. Relevant readings are assigned and should be read in advance. Important examples and issues about the topic for each class will be presented. Active participation in contributing to these sessions is expected. To help make the ideas more readily understood and actively applied they will be combined with team exercises. Attendance is important.
One-third of the grade will be based on weekly assignments and class participation. Another third will be for the platform concept you produce working in a small team in a brief, written sketch plus the peer evaluation of your contributions as a team member. The final third will be a function of your contributions in class conversation plus the occasional questions we will pose for you. Overall, emphasis will be on demonstrated mastery of the material, along with its effective application.
