The Institute of Design's graduate program is the world's most intensive program of advanced methods and theories of design. Students learn skills that help them succeed in many industries and functions, from traditional product and communication design to design planning, product development, information architecture, corporate strategy, teaching, and research.

Master of Design (MDes) | More Information
Requirements 2-5 years work experience; either a four-year bachelor's in design and portfolio OR a non-design bachelor's and GRE/GMAT scores
Duration Four semesters full-time for those with a bachelor's in design; six semesters full-time for those with a non-design bachelor's degree
Goal Professional mastery at the highest level in the fields of communication, product design, design planning or design research.
Master of Design Methods (MDM) | More Information
Requirements Four-year Bachelor's degree; 5+ years leadership experience; outstanding design portfolio OR collection of non-design projects
Duration Two semesters full-time, or four to six semesters part-time
Goal Adding knowledge of latest user-centered and strategic design methods to a mid-career portfolio
Master of Design / MBA | More Information
Requirements Four-year bachelor's degree; 2-5 years work experience; GMAT scores, minimum score 600/800; portfolios from those with a bachelor's in design; English proficiency
Duration Two years plus summer for those with design bachelor's; three years plus summer for those with non-design bachelor's
Goal Integrated professional mastery in both user-centered, methods-based design innovation AND core management principles of marketing, project accounting, organizational behavior and strategy.
PhD | More Information
Requirements Master's degree; GRE score of 1200/1600 and 3.0/6.0; approval of ID faculty member
Duration At least three years, including dissertation
Goal Advanced design research in corporate or academic settings; teaching
