Location
ID is located in the heart of downtown Chicago at 350 North LaSalle Street. The school is easily accessible to public transportation, the central business district, and numerous restaurants and shops.
Student organizations
Coursework at ID is demanding, but students find the time to pursue extracurricular activities. The ID Student Activities Board is an umbrella organization, divided into several sub-groups, is described below.

engageID
Fosters student involvement and voice in matters relating to the school, the ID community, and the design industry and develops simple and effective means to communicate this to the student body. Publishes a student newsletter, The New Idiom, and organizes the annual Design Research Conference.
insideID
Acts to improve ID's physical and emotional spaces by providing resources to diminish the stresses that work and class expectations create, including brown-bag lecturettes, facilities improvements, and related activities.
socialID
Encourages lasting relationships among the ID community through social events open to all students that are held during the year.
welcomeID
Provides a welcoming environment for new students by hosting events and helping students orient themselves to the school.
