Each step of the design process has associated frameworks and methods. These are the tools designers use to understand context and users, make sense of constraints and opportunities, and construct artifacts and experiences.

Gathered here are some of the tools we find most useful.

The core of IIT Institute of Design’s mission is building design knowledge. That means understanding what designers do and turning the knowledge they rely on into frameworks and methods that can be reused, shared with others, and improved.

We not only offer access to frameworks and methods. We give them meaning by creating real design situations in which students use them. By using tools in collaboration with peers and faculty, students make these them their own. They turn their knowledge of frameworks and methods into knowledge readily at hand as they go about their design work.
