Jorge Frascara is Professor Emeritus, Department of Art and Design, University of Alberta; Honorary Professor, Emily Carr University; Fellow, Society of Graphic Designers of Canada; Former-President of Ico-D (International Council of Design); International Fellow, Society for the Science of Design (Japan); Advisor, Doctorate in Design, IUAV University of Venice, and Member of the Editorial Boards of Visible Language, Design Issues and Information Design Journal.
He was department Chair and Coordinator of Visual Communication Design, and has authored or edited ten books and more than 90 articles internationally. He was an advisor to the International Standards Organization (ISO), the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and the Canadian Standards Council (CSC). He received honors and awards from Japan, Korea, USA, Poland, Mexico, Czechoslovakia, Canada, and Argentina for his socially-oriented, user-centred, evidence-based and outcomes-oriented way of practicing and promoting communication design.
He practices information design in Edmonton with his wife, Guillermina Noël, focusing on healthcare.
